Entry Requirements & Permits

Do I need a passport or visa to visit the Andamans?
Indian Citizens: No passport, visa, or special permit is required. You can visit and stay in all permitted areas.
Foreign Nationals: Yes. You must have a valid passport and a standard Indian Visa. This is the same visa used to enter mainland India.
Do foreigners need a special permit to visit?
Generally, no. The previously required Restricted Area Permit (RAP) has been lifted for foreigners visiting 30 popular islands, including Havelock (Swaraj Dweep), Neil (Shaheed Dweep), and Baratang.
A permit is required if you plan to visit tribal reserves, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, or any island not on the official exemption list.
Which islands am I allowed to visit?
Tourist access is limited to designated islands to protect sensitive ecological and tribal areas. As a rule, you can visit the 30 islands exempted from the RAP. Travel to other islands, especially in the Nicobar group, is strictly prohibited for tourists.
How do I get or extend my stay permit?
Upon arrival at the Port Blair airport, most foreign tourists are granted a permit to stay for 30 days.
Extension: This can be extended for an additional 15 days.
Where to Apply: Visit the Immigration Office in Port Blair or the police station on Havelock Island.
Requirement: You must present a confirmed return flight ticket to apply for an extension.
