How do I get to the Andaman Islands?

  • By Air (Recommended): Fly into Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair. Direct flights are available from major Indian cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, and Bengaluru.

  • By Sea: For a longer, more adventurous journey, passenger ships sail from Chennai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam. The voyage takes approximately 3-4 days.

How long does the journey take?

  • Flight: Approximately 2 hours from Chennai or Kolkata, and about 5 hours from Delhi.

  • Ship: Between 50 to 70 hours (3-4 days), depending on the port of departure and sea conditions.

Can I use helicopters or seaplanes to get around?

  • Helicopters: While helicopter services operate, they are primarily reserved for government, medical, and local administrative use. They are generally not available for tourist bookings.

  • Seaplanes: The seaplane service is not currently operational and has been discontinued for several years.
